o THE ART OF NOISES

Luigi Russolo, member of the futurist movement of early twentieth century, can be considered the true inventor of industrial music. He created, among other instruments, the Intonarumori, a big machine capable of generating noises, and recorded some of the very first noise music pieces.

The Art of Noises is a visionary manifesto, because in it Russolo tells how the sound of industries and noise is the music of the future. Nowadays, noise is a whole genre of music.

Prophetic. A must-read. The link goes to the page about the manifesto on UBUWEB, and contains a PDF of The Art of Noises manifesto translated to English in PDF (1.7 MB). UBUWEB, by the way, is really worth checking out. Lots of interesting stuff, free text, music etc. of all things avant-garde.
