Jamendo is an interesting music community with more than 5000
free albums of all styles. Half their profits from ads are shared with the musicians:
the more downloads and page hits the artists have, and the more they are recommended using
the community's system, the thicker their slice of the cake is. |
This collection is a lighthearted homage to:
- Erik Satie
a unique figure in music history, creator of dozens of marvellous short music pieces, mostly for piano;
inventor of Ambient Music through his Furniture Music (Musique d'Ameublement);
creator of dadaistic titles and surreal score instructions, before Dadaism and Surrealism were invented - some would say he's the precursor of all the music that came after him and I wouldn't argue with that;
and many other things.
- Steve Reich
composer of Different Trains, one of the masterpieces of the twentieth century.
- Conlon Nancarrow
original creator of some crazy fast automatic piano music who was born
exactly 70 years and two days before me.
- Johann Sebastian Bach
The Art of Fugue is one of his most important compositions, but the only performance of it I've heard (on CD) is unfortunately, a VERY BORING one.
- and all musicians who make serious music.
"Every Brazilian composer is full of complexes." (Tom Zé - Complexo de Épico (Oepicus Complex))
